Lumbini

Lumbini is one of the most important religious places in the world. It is the birthplace of Lord Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama. It is a sacred site for Buddhists, as it is home to many ancient temples dating as far back as the 5th century BCE. Indian Emperor Ashoka built a pillar called Ashoka Pillar in the 3rd century, and it is considered one of the oldest monuments made that still stands today in Nepal. Other landmarks in Lumbini include – The Mayadevi temple, The World Peace Pagoda, Ranighat Palace, Royal Thai Monastery, Myanmar Golden Monastery, Dae Sung Sakya, etc. These temples have been renovated many times due to deterioration. It has been enlisted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997 AD.

There are two ways to go to Lumbini. One is to take a domestic flight and the other is to take by land vehicle. You can take a flight from Kathmandu to Gautam Buddha Airport which is 13 km away from Lumbini. It is around 255 km away from the city of Kathmandu. It will take approximately 12 hours to reach Lumbini on a land vehicle.
